The woman, a client of Miraldi and Barrett, was on coumadin to prevent Transient Ischemic Attacks she had experienced about a year prior. She was taken off coumadin by her family physician five days prior to a routine urinary evaluation as an out patient. When she arrived at the hospital the morning of the procedure, her daughter reported to the nursing staff that her mother had started to slur her words and had difficulty buttoning her blouse. The procedure was done anyway by a urologist who then left the hospital. The family physician was not advised that his patient was having pre stroke symptoms while in recovery. The woman had a severe left sided stroke several hours later. The urologist settled before trial and the verdict was against the hospital.
